What are your favorite types of foods?
By the bank of Nile stood I,
Beckoning at friends from other clan to come,
As I walk you through the dining tables of my kinsmen,
To bite the sumptuous meal by the mouth of Niger,
Cowpea that some renamed as beans is my belly’s friend,
My kinsmen and I called it “Ewa” in our prestigious Yoruba language,
A common food among the lower economic class of Nigeria,
I like Ewa (cowpea) and other meals made of it,
Akara and moimoi (beans cake in different forms) are varieties of Ewa preparation,
The former is fried and the later is cooked.
Another food on my kinsmen table is “Gari”
It is the most common staple food in the southern Nigeria,
It as no class, it resides both with the rich and the poor in Nigeria,
It is a fried cassava flour,
I enjoy taking it with suger and chilled water,
Especially in the hot afternoon,
It romances my intestines and provides,
Enough complex sugar for my body system,
Mind you, I can also combine Ewa and Gari together as meal.
Another one is Ogi (Pap),
It is made from either corn (maize) or guinea corn.
It has the nomenclature of yogurt, but it is not yogurt,
It is better to take it very hot or very chill,
It is of course my favorite meal for breakfast.
There are numerous sumptuous meals,
Among my kinsmen,
But the few I have described are my favorites,
I love to eat them not because they are very cheap to buy,
It is because they are actually my favorites from childhood,
Though cheaper than host of other meal.
Thanks for visiting my kinsmen dining table,
You can now go back to your various countries.
Thanks so much.
Nice and interesting read. Very eloquently presented.

So often traditional foods from our childhood stay with us long after our spring has turned to summer and then fall. A staple breakfast food in our family is oatmeal, usually sweetened with brown sugar and speckled with raisins and nuts. My grandmother made it for me when I was a child, and as I ate, I would watch the birds outside her kitchen window, pecking at the bird feeders. Both birds and human were having their breakfasts together.
I hope you keep enjoying the staples from your youth, and that they remind you of your favorite moments at the table.

I love that feeling you get when taking garri especially after a long day. My favorite food is actually semo with okro soup. So yummy
