WALK

How often do you walk or run?

Only the lame and the impotent are exempted from walking in my world,

Not that our environment is impermissive for their steps on our street,

But their condition constraints them to a spot unlike others,

Walking daily over long distance is a means of survival,

We walk to work and run when occasion calls for it,

Less than thirty percent could afford a daily T-fare to work in my world,

The only cheap common option is to ride on the two-wheel “legedis benz” freely given to everyone from birth,

But everyone walks,

From the leaving room to the balcony, from the kitchen to the dinning, from the backyard to the garage,

Both the rich and the poor walk.

The rich are too scare of accumulated fat this days,

Early they rise to run over kilometers,

Not for their love for sport, but for their health to be sustained,

But for the less privileged, we walk and run at all time to keep our pockets occupied,

I walk a long distance daily to survive the politically inflicted hardship in my country.

  1. I appreciate how you’ve linked walking with the challenges faced in the African world, particularly emphasizing the differences between the wealthier and less privileged people. I was truly looking forward to reading such insights from you today, our dear poet🙂
