Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.
A journey of 803.6km via road same day, was my furthest Journey within Nigeria.
A day to be remembered was the day I traveled from Ibadan (South West, Nigeria) to Lokoja ( Middle Belt, Nigeria) and traveled back to Ibadan on the same day.
Not that the distance was too long to be covered in a day by road, but it was during a period of dreaded insecurity in Nigeria, a period when no one was willing to accommodate a stranger to pass a night, not even churches nor hotels were willing to take the risk to lodge a strange traveller.
The need to avoid being stranded, the fear of dust to dawn curfew and the fate of a hopeless job seeker compelled me to embarked on such a terrifying journey of my life.
My furthest Journey was the greatest risk I took, amidst suicide bombers and genocidal missions in Nigeria.
I feel you, my brother. Life is not worth a dime in Nigeria. Lives are snuffed out on the premise of a whim. It’s sad. It’s the reason that I get armed guards to accompany my family and I whenever I am in Nigeria. It’s sad that this insecurity was orchestrated by the ruling elite for personal filthy lucre!
